The Canadiens reassign Barberio and Andrighetto to the IceCaps

The Montreal Canadiens sent defenceman Marc Barberio and forward Sven Andrighetto back to the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League.

Not only do the IceCaps face the Binghamton Senators on Wednesday, but seeing as the Habs have a light schedule this week they’ll be saving precious dollars on the salary cap.

In 19 games with St. John’s this season Barberio has produced three goals and fourteen assists, good for third on the team in terms of scoring. Andrighetto is also having a fantastic season in the AHL, sitting second in team scoring with seven goals and 13 assists in 18 games.

Complicating their situations is the waiver requirement rule. The Canadiens were lucky that neither was claimed initially when they were put on waivers, however they will once again need to be put on waivers should they play 10 games in the NHL, or spend 30 days in the NHL, all calculated cumulatively.

Andrighetto will require waivers in three games, whereas Barberio will be waiver eligible in four more games. Alternatively, both players will necessitate waivers if they spend another 11 games on the Canadiens’ roster.
