Once again the Lightning managed to pull themselves into a game in which they were handily outplayed. Once again, it wasn’t enough to earn a win. It was former Tampa Bay forward Carter Verhaeghe who scored the goal in overtime in Game 2 to give the Panthers a 2-0 series edge. Now things shift to Amalie Arena, where the Lightning will need to find a way to score more than two goals to avoid getting sent to the brink.

The Islanders got out to a 3-0 lead in Game 2 and thought they could coast to a win and even the series. Carolina had other plans, scoring five unanswered goals over the final 27 minutes, That led some New York’s players to some rather unsportsmanlike behaviour in the final moments of the game, upset about an empty-net insurance marker. Patrick Roy’s team will need a new tactic to prevent such an embarrassing display on home ice.
