2013 World Juniors Game Thread: Canada vs Germany

It’s 4AM, and somehow I’m awake. Or maybe I’m not yet because I wrote this on Christmas Eve and someone should make sure I wake up in time.

Being the vindictive jerks that they are, Russia has placed every Canada game except for the one against Russia on New Years Eve at the absurd hour of 4:30AM EST. Just another reason to root against them I guess.

Germany’s team has been previewed by Bruce Peter here.

Canada will lean heavily on their top defense pairing of Dougie Hamilton and Morgan Rielly, and will hope to stay out of the penalty trouble that really slowed them down in the preliminary games.

Canada will be without Boone Jenner, who was suspended on Christmas Eve for a predatory hit on Jesper Petterson.

Canada was also previewed by Bruce Peter here.

Malcolm Subban will get the start in net, which bodes well for him as Steve Spott has said whoever gets the start in game one will likely be his goalie for the tournament.

Eastern Canada, wake up! Western Canada, stay up! Drink some coffee or ingest caffeine by some other means, it’s World Junior time. Game time is 4:30AM EST. At least you’ll see the sun rise!

GO CANADA GO
