Top Six Minutes – Broken Record Edition as Habs lose season opener to Leafs

  • I always love the first game of the year because it reminds you that you are friends with people who have no idea what they’re talking about. Yes, this is Price’s fault, yes, the season is over, yes, Subban is terrible, yes, the Habs suck and yes, the Habs are going to miss the playoffs.
  • THERE ARE EIGHTY ONE GAMES LEFT.
  • Plus the playoffs. We are going to have playoffs. I will make a bet with all of you on this.
  • And I’ve got news for you. The Habs were the better team playing tonight. They didn’t always look better than the other team, in fact, for the entire second period and most of the third they played pretty terribly, but that’s the point. “They played badly and lost because of some lapses” is not the same thing as saying “they are a bad team so they lost.” Learn the difference.
  • If you think the Leafs are objectively a better team than the Habs, I don’t know how to help you. Maybe you should be a Leafs fan.
  • On to the awful thing: Let’s all just hope that George Parros is going to be okay and that he recovers quickly. However it happens, watching a guy get stretchered off the ice is always scary (and Andrew reminded me we’ve been doing it far too often lately) but I think people were saying he was alert when he was being carried off, so let’s hope for the very best.
  • Oh, and will the CBC just fire fucking Glenn Healy already?
  • Some other notes: Ryan ‘Walter’ White may or may not have lost his powers by getting rid of all of his hair. Stay tuned.
  • As the saying goes, when Andrei Markov has a bad game, the Montreal Canadiens have a bad game.
  • That said, I would like 60 minutes of Markov and P.K. Subban playing together for 82 games, how do we make that happen.
  • Why the fuck isn’t your reigning Norris Trophy winner playing big minutes on your penalty kill, Michel Therrien? Wait, he’s not even on it? What?
  • Carey Price is going to be fine. Is anyone else really encouraged by his…err… 4 GAA performance tonight? No? Okay, compare it to Price down the stretch last season? Now you’re with me.
  • As much as I want to hate the Francis Bouillon signing, all I can bring myself to do is pity the player, at this point. Some bad luck tonight, but how is this guy going to keep up with this team?
  • You guys, do you think we got enough back in the Jaroslav Halak trade?
  • Lars Eller has approximately seven hundred and ninety two points tonight. He basically pwned at regular stats, fancy stats and intangibles this game. Eller4Hart2014, let’s make some placards.
  • EGG line = the new bacon.
  • I went looking for the Leafs defensive coverage in that game and all I found was a bunch of unicorns.
  • Courtesy of Math Man, who compiled some of the fancy number thingys for the game on his Twitter account: “Well, if that’s what Habs losses are going to look like, they’re going to win a lot of games.”
  • Told, ya, negative Habs “fan” crowd.
  • If the Habs keep taking penalties at this rate, Danny Briere will play no more than three minutes a game.
  • If Max Pacioretty isn’t going to be able to play for the next little while, Danny Briere and David Desharnais will play… I don’t even want to think about it. That said, he did come back, and he is Wolverine, so…
  • On to the Flyers. Let’s hope the Habs win and there are no scary incidents this time.
  • Get well soon, George.
