Canadiens vs. Senators third period thread

Alex Galchenyuk took some more damage blocking a shot early in the second period. The Habs were competing hard, and generating a lot of speed and quality chances around Andrew Hammond. The Sens were responding in kind, with Ben Scrivens playing a solid game at the other end of the ice.

Sven Andrighetto has been rocked twice in this game by Dion Phaneuf, the second hit the more vicious of the two as Andrighetto exited his own zone. Michael McCarron had some words for Phaneuf when he crossed in front of the Habs’ bench as the hit was pretty close to being a headshot.

The Habs got another pwoerplay with under ten minutes left in the second period and gave up another shorthanded goal on a mistake at the blueline leading to a Senators break. Curtis Lazar took a loose puck that beat Andrei Markov at the Sens’ blueline and turned up the ice with speed and fired it over Ben Scrivens’ shoulder to put the Senators up 2-0.

The Habs have been keeping even with the Senators in possession, with 49 shot attempts a side, but they trail 2-0 heading into the third period.
