Montreal Canadiens sign Danny Briere for two years

Not sure what else there is to say about this move. I’ve already written about it this morning.

Danny Briere was likely the most high-risk, low-reward player on the market this summer, and the Canadiens have signed him.

That they’ve signed him for two years and not just one is even worse. The Canadiens now employ two forwards who need extreme sheltering and provide zero defensive value in their top-9. The only way this could get worse is if they trade Plekanec.

This is the kind of move that makes me question whether Bergevin has any clue what he’s doing.

UPDATE: Briere’s contract will pay him $4M per year, and may contain a no trade clause.
