Gallagher left Tuesday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes after getting an inadvertent knee to the head.
Gallagher will be out at least until next Tuesday as it is retroactive to December 31.
The team recalled Dale Weise on Wednesday in order to allow Riley Barber to not reach his 10th game. If he plays 10 games, he would require waivers to be sent down.
At practice today, Matthew Peca returned to the ice, but is not yet ready for game action.
Nick Cousins took Gallagher’s spot on the top line as Nick Suzuki continued with Artturi Lehkonen and Max Domi. Weise skated with Lukas Vejdemo and Nate Thompson.
Ryan Poehling continued to skate with Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Mike Reilly and Christian Folin were once again the extra defencemen ahead of Thursday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. It will be Montreal’s first home game after their road trip in Western Canada and the southern United States.
