Montreal Canadiens send Riley Barber to Laval

The Montreal Canadiens have returned forward Riley Barber to the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League.

Barber played nine games, and one more game played would mean he’d need waivers to be sent down. In those nine games, Barber did not record a point and has now played 12 NHL games in his career without hitting the scoreboard.

In 21 games with the Rocket this season, Barber has six goals and 12 assists. Despite his NHL time, he remains second on the team in scoring and will provide an added boost to a Rocket team that has Alex Belzile out for the season, and Phil Varone working his way back from an injury.

The Canadiens recalled Dale Weise to be the extra forward pending Brendan Gallagher’s injury that saw him leave Tuesday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes early, and subsequently be placed on the Injured Reserve list. Lukas Vejdemo has looked very good in his brief time up with the team, and will likely continue his role in the NHL for now as well.
