- Montreal wins, but unfortunately we lost a good one tonight. Andrew Berkshire, our former leader, is assumed dead at the hands of rowdy Quebec Nordiques fans on the streets of Newark tonight.
- Also, this guy joined in after Andrew went ballistic while Devils goaltending coach Jacques Caron, honoured for 20 years of service to the team in a pre-game ceremony, called Martin Brodeur the “greatest goaltender of all time”:
- Lars Eller will father a great many children in Montreal by the end of his career if he continues this level of play.
- Two rookies made their NHL debuts tonight. One was a fast Finnish winger who got to play on a line with Patrik Elias and David Clarkson. Another was a tall lanky blueliner who got paired with Francis Bouillon. Guess which one got their first NHL point tonight?
- Jarred Tinordi impressed in a lot of ways, the slapshot that was tipped in by Tomas Plekanec was just a nice bonus. Nearly 15 minutes a night from a position that gave less than 7 minutes of icetime to Greg Pateryn on last game… and Tinordi was playing his off-side.
- The second period man… why do we need those?
- Colby Armstrong scored and got rewarded with top 9 minutes during the third period. Therrien completely ditched Gabriel Dumont, Ryan White, and Michael Blunden when trying to defend the lead.
- It’s been a while since I’ve watched a full game, and this game didn’t have a lot of sustained pressure from either side. But it’s incredible how noticeable the good players on each team are in games like this. Max Pacioretty, Ilya Kovalchuk, Patrik Elias, Lars Eller, and P.K. Subban all stood out with their dominance with the puck. As the game wore on, Tomas Plekanec joined that list despite having to deal with Travis Moen on his LW.
- Not on this list? Travis Zajac. Seriously, has this guy ever stood out in a game against the Canadiens? Maybe when he was younger, but man… I realize he’s got a lot of other games to impress in but he does not seem like a guy that gets paid more than Plekanec.
- Carey Price was excellent tonight. The one goal went through him, but also through a few screens. A bit unfortunate there as he was battling for sight lines. The rest of the time? Oh he was lovely.
1. Robert Rice won with posting the promotional poster for the famous 1988 Jarred Tinordi-Francis Bouillon joint Twins. Tinordi was -4 when that movie came out.
2. A shared second place between repeat contender Scott Matla and myself for Scott’s reaction to Colby Armstrong scoring. I found it odd he recorded himself while playing NHL13 on Playstation.
3. The second period was typical Montreal weak, but Laura (theactivestick) broke through in the third with some thoughts on why there were so many Nordiques fans there.
Honourable Mentions: imisssakualot with his summary of the score of Laura vs. Quebec fans (which was a much better one than Andrew vs them), Dr. Horrible on who Eller was channelling tonight, and turnonthejets and NolanKB with the only good efforts of the second period, relating to how shitty the second period was/is in general.
