The NHL Draft is in the rear view mirror, teams have had a chance to talk with impending free agents, and it’s finally time to witness the chaos that is the opening day of NHL free agency.
Montreal’s situation is exciting, if not unnerving. They do have $21M in available cap space, but their at risk of losing two of their best players.
Andrei Markov seems intent on signing a two-year deal, which has led to a stalemate with Marc Bergevin. Alex Radulov is seeking a massive contract, further complicated by the incoming pay increase for Alex Galchenyuk. Bergevin has a lot of work to do, and he’ll be doing it in a less than ideal scenario.
Simply put, the Canadiens may look like a very different team by the end of the day.
