With selection camp in full swing, Team Canada made its first round of cuts today following a game against the U-Sports All-Stars. Unfortunately these cuts included Montreal prospect Victor Mete.

The dynamic defenceman will return to the OHL’s London Knights, where he is the teams leading scorer on defence, with eight goals and 16 assists. Mete was a long shot to make the Canadian roster, but a strong performance in both exhibition games does a lot to bolster his stock for next years team.

It’s not a knock on Mete’s skill, Team Canada’s defence is stacked to the brim with high level talent, and first-round draft picks from this past years draft. In addition to Mete, Canada also cut Brett Howden, Nick Merkley, and Austin Wagner.
As for the other Habs prospects, Michael McNiven remains in the hunt for a goaltending spot, along with Connor Ingram. Canada is expected to make their final cut in the goaltending department Thursday night.
As for 2015 first-round pick Noah Juulsen, he is one of the nine remaining defenders left at camp alongside Jake Bean, Thomas Chabot, Kale Clague, Dante Fabbro, Samuel Girard, Jeremy Lauzon, Philippe Myers, and Guillaume Brisebois. As opposed to McNiven and Mete, Juulsen’s spot on the roster is safe.
