The St. John’s IceCaps announced on Sunday morning that seldom used Mac Bennett, Angelo Miceli, and Travis Brown have been reassigned to the Brampton Beast of the ECHL and that the recently signed Tom Parisi will start his professional career immediately with the IceCaps, signing an Amateur Tryout (ATO) contract.

With the recent influx of players on Amateur and Professional Tryouts (ATO and PTO) such as Andrew Yogan, Alex Ranger, Cory Ward, and Chris Joyaux, the IceCaps have clearly gone into future restocking mode despite being in the midst of a fading race for the playoffs, and roster spots became hard to come by as player evaluation takes precedence.
Defenceman Mac Bennett is the elder of the group, having been drafting in the third round in 2009. After four years of college he made his professional debut with the Bulldogs last year, but seems to have regressed this year, begin unable to earn a spot in the regular Top Six defencemen for the IceCaps. He only played three out of the last 14 games since his last reassignment from Brampton.
It’s unknown whether an injury has slowed his down this year or not, but his utilization is certainly not helping his status as a restricted free agent at the end of the season. He has only managed three points in 32 games this season. Hopefully next season he has a rebound year like Morgan Ellis did this season after a difficult campaign last season.
Forward Angelo Miceli came in to rookie camp on a tryout and impressed greatly with his speed and playmaking ability during the rookie tournament. He earned a one year AHL contract, and since then has oscillated between the AHL and the ECHL. He centered the fourth line for 11 straight games when he was reassigned from the Beast in early February, but since then has only played two out of 13 games. He has four points in 28 games.
Defenceman Travis Brown played only three games and was scratched 12 times since being called up from the Brampton Beast in late February. He scored a goal in his first game on February 24, and gone pointless since then.
The three of them will join Defenceman Dalton Thrower who is also currently in Brampton.
