Tonight’s Habs lines: Nick Suzuki on top trio, Keith Kinkaid gets first start

The Montreal Canadiens were experimenting with Nick Suzuki at right wing yesterday, and with the alignment staying the same on Saturday morning, it looks like he will get to play that role tonight in Ottawa.

Jordan Weal, who had been on Suzuki’s wing for much of the pre-season, gets to return to a more familiar centre role, providing Phil Varone and Dale Weise with a solid anchor in their attempts to stay in the conversation for the fourth line.

Charles Hudon, who struggled in such a role last year, once again gets time alongside a more skilled centreman. Hudon has looked good, especially when part of the trio with Suzuki and Weal, and this is one more chance to show that he can be effective in a higher role.

On defence, Chiarot and Petry remains locked as a pairing. They started together on the first day of training camp, and seem destined to take the ice together on opening night. Cale Fleury is doing his best to earn a spot as the third-pairing option on the right side, tonight playing alongside Mikey Reilly.

After watching the first few games, Keith Kinkaid gets into his first pre-season action. He will be backed up by Cayden Primeau as the Habs take on a Senators squad filled with young prospects.
