The Montreal Canadiens have traded forward Nicolas Deslauriers to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2020.

Deslauriers was acquired in exchange for Zach Redmond ahead of the 2017-18 season, providing a surprising amount of offence to the Canadiens in his first year. He earned a two-year extension for his efforts after that campaign, but was unable to reach the same level in 2018-19, playing just 48 games on the year and contributing five points.
Claude Julien attempted every permutation of Deslauriers and his fellow bottom-three forwards, with the team ultimately needing to turn to trade to find some other options, including Nate Thompson and Jordan Weal, who became regulars in the lineup down the stretch, and have themselves re-signed for 2019-20.
The move currently gives the amateur scouting staff 12 picks for the 2020 draft to work with, though it is possible Marc Bergevin plans to use some of them to bolster his team for a deep playoff run.
