The NHL All-Star weekend shifts from a very entertaining skills competition to what will hopefully be a competitive and entertaining All-Star tournament. The new format provides some intriguing potential, with the tournament style and one million dollar prize to the winning team providing some more motivation to compete.
The tournament splits the Conference teams we saw in last night’s skills competition into four Divisional teams. Divisions from the same Conference will face off with the winners moving on to a final game to decide the winner of the tournament.
This is P.K. Subban’s first official All-Star game. He appeared as a Young Gun at the 2011 All-Star Game in Carolina. With the new three-on-three format, who knows what will happen, but it seems like a game like this is made for someone as competitive and skilled as P.K.

Format
It’s tournament format, with the first bracket setting the Divisions against each other. The games will be three-on-three, twenty minutes long, with a change of sides at the ten-minute mark.
Division teams of the same Conference face off in the first round, with the winners meeting in a final game to decide the winner of the tournament. The winning team wins one million dollars, and the player of the game wins a really nice truck.
There have been a number of public statements from John Scott’s Metropolitan Division teammates telling him that they’re going to help him do well in the tournament. It will be interesting to see if they can make it happen.
