Canadiens vs. Red Wings third period thread

Stefan Matteau got rocked in open ice by Brendan Smith who hit him somewhat high, but not high enough to merit a penalty out of either referee. Phillip Danault went after Smith for the hit. Danault was given the extra penalty after the two tussled, putting the Red Wings on the powerplay for the third time in the game.

The Wings failed to convert on the powerplay, but jumped to a 3-0 lead within moments of the powerplay ending, scoring two goals in twelve seconds. The Habs almost went down 4-0 a minute later, with giant holes appearing in their coverage.

The Wings did end up extending their lead to 4-0 on a late powerplay in the second period with Anthony Mantha scoring his first NHL goal.

It’s really obvious we have one team playing for fun right now, and the other playing to get some business done. The Habs were outshot 21-5 in the second period.
