Canadiens vs. Blackhawks third period thread

The Habs came out with a strong push to start the second period, putting up five shot attempts and three shots on net over the span of a minute between the 2:32 and 3:32 mark of the period. The Habs held the Blackhawks to just one shot attempt in the first six minutes of the first period.

A couple of Habs came close to tying in midway through the second period, including Max Pacioretty who mailed in a shot over the crossbar at the end of a three-on-two, and Paul Byron who was robbed by Corey Crawford who was scrambling outside of his crease to regain position.

The Habs had a strong first half of the second period, almost matching their first period shot-attempt output by recorded 12 shot attempts in the first ten minutes of the period. The Habs did not keep up that pace, but still outplayed the Blackhawks by a wide margin in the second period. Corey Crawford was lights out, making the difference for his team to keep their lead intact.

The Habs trail 2-1 heading into the third period. Aside from the Canadiens’ strong offensive push in the second period, Alexei Emelin had a huge hip-check worthy of another look:
