The Canadiens already have a log jam at forward, so Ward will either be a body taking part in camp, or he will make it harder for rookies like Jesperi Kotkaniemi or Nick Suzuki to crack the NHL roster, which may end up being a good thing long-term.
Ward will likely be battling with Nicolas Deslauriers, among others for a spot on the team’s fourth line.
Ward is 37 years old and is coming off a season where he had five goals and seven assists in 52 games. In 726 NHL games, he has 133 goals and 171 assists for 304 points.
Notably, Ward will count towards NHL veteran minimums during the team’s seven pre-season games.
