The Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Yannick Veilleux to a one year two-way AHL/ECHL contract.

This is the second contract for the St. Hippolyte, Quebec native who started last season with the Brampton Beast in the ECHL, but once called up to the St. John’s IceCaps in the AHL became a regular part of Sylvain Lefebvre’s lineup.
Lefebvre mentioned numerous times how he appreciated Veilleux’s responsible play, playing alongside Mark MacMillan and Bobby Farnham. In 53 games he scored six goals and added 10 assists which aren’t groundbreaking numbers, but he was never expected to be an offensive player, but rather a defensively-responsible player who worked the penalty kill.
He averaged around 12 minutes per game according to AHL stat tracking site prospect-stats.com, which estimates player minutes. It is worth noting however that 11 of his 16 points were primary points, meaning that although he doesn’t produce much, he does chip in to finish the offence when the opportunity presents itself.
Veilleux should meet some stiff competition on left wing depth, with Daniel Carr, Charles Hudon, Jeremiah Addison, and David Broll likely ahead of him. Veilleux may find himself starting the season with Brampton again, but is an excellent depth option for the Laval Rocket.
Veilleux, 24-years old, was a fourth round pick by the St. Louis Blues in 2011.
