The Montreal Canadiens have recalled forward Emil Heineman on an emergency basis, the team announced on Friday. He will join the team from Utica, where the Laval Rocket are for the weekend.

Heineman will be recalled for the second time. He played two NHL games this season, but did not score a point. He has two goals and four assists in 10 AHL games this season with the Laval Rocket. He is classified as an emergency recall as the Canadiens played two games with 11 forwards after Christian Dvorak’s season-ending injury.

Dvorak was placed on injured reserve to make room. The team also has eight defenders on the NHL roster, and this move likely means they will go back to a 12-6 lineup. Johnathan Kovacevic had been playing as the seventh defender.

The Canadiens host the New York Rangers on Saturday. The Rocket play in Utica on Friday and Sunday.
