The NHL conducted its annual draft lottery on Tuesday night. The Montreal Canadiens have held their position at fifth, and will select at that position for the second consecutive year.

Macklin Celebrini is projected to be the top selection in the draft, followed by Russian forward Ivan Demidov. After that, there’s a great deal of uncertainly, with a group of high-quality defencemen and big forwards, so the Canadiens were in line to get a good player no matter how the ping pong balls landed.
The 2024 NHL Draft will be held at The Sphere in Las Vegas on June 28 and 29, where the new franchise is Utah will also be making its first ever pick.
