Live stream: TSN+, RDS Direct
Before the tournament began, it seemed that the rosters for the United States and Sweden were the strongest out of the 10 teams entered in the 2024 World Junior Hockey Championship. They had the best depth at all three positions, with no major question marks on either side. After 10 days and 27 games played, those two nations do indeed meet in the Gold Medal Game.
It’s fitting that the two teams that have produced the most goals are the ones to make it to the championship match; at the end of the day, that’s what Junior hockey is all about. The game features 12 of the top 18 point-producers in the tournament, which includes the two players tied for the goal-scoring lead, Sweden’s Jonathan Lekkerimäki and USA’s Gavin Brindley.
It also features the top two netminders by save percentage, so while there will be a lot chances, there will also be some amazing saves. Expect this one to be the game of the 2024 World Juniors, as a Gold Medal Game should be.
