Montreal Canadiens place Victor Mete on waivers

The Montreal Canadiens have placed defenceman Victor Mete on waivers on Sunday.

The defenceman was a healthy scratch on Saturday, and was the extra defenceman at practice on Sunday. Mete has been in and out of the lineup this season. He has played 14 games this season, and has three assists. He has six penalty minutes and is +3.

He has played 185 NHL games with four goals and 30 assists. He was the team’s fourth-round pick (100th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft.

The Canadiens have apparently recalled Xavier Ouellet to the taxi squad, per AHL transactions. The NHL trade deadline is Monday at 3:00 p.m. Eastern. It should be expected that there will be some movement from the Canadiens, even if it is just a minor transaction.

The Canadiens next game is Monday night when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Bell Centre. They are currently on a three-game losing streak.
