Montreal Canadiens injury update: Galchenyuk still out, but others close

It was a good news, bad news situation report from Montreal Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien after practice today.

We’ll start with the bad news. After re-injuring his knee, Alex Galchenyuk is out until at least the weekend. He did skate by himself before the team’s practice today.

On the other side of things, David Desharnais will be back. Desharnais skated with Andrew Shaw and Sven Andrighetto at practice today and will likely line up there against the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow night.

For his part, Andrei Markov is still a game-time decision. With Markov the Canadiens have seven defencemen, including newcomer Nikita Nesterov. Nesterov will be making his Habs debut.

And, not surprising, but Carey Price will get the start for the Canadiens in their first game back after the All-Star break.

At practice today, Jacob de la Rose ended up being the extra forward at practice, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he was the one to sit out with Desharnais returning.
