Montreal Canadiens put Zach Redmond on waivers

With the return of Andrei Markov, and the arrival of Nikita Nesterov, the Montreal Canadiens put defenceman Zach Redmond on waivers today.

This means that the Canadiens will have seven defencemen healthy counting Markov. I would expect Markov will get regular reps at practice today. The Habs are scheduled to practice at 2:00 p.m. It will also be Nesterov’s first practice with the team after being acquired from Tampa Bay.

Redmond has played 15 games for the Canadiens this season, picking up five assists. He started the season as the team’s seventh defenceman and was put on injured reserve before playing a game for an injury sustained during practice.

He has played the majority of his time on the Habs third pairing this season, partnering with Mark Barberio, and Greg Pateryn.

Redmond is the second Canadiens defenceman to be sent down since Nesterov was acquired as Ryan Johnston went down before the All-Star Break.

The Canadiens are down to two right-handed shots on defence, likely meaning that either Barberio or Nesterov will move to the right side upon Markov’s return.
