Despite a 4-0 loss on Thursday, the Canadiens were quite happy with their play versus the Los Angeles Kings. They had matched one of the NHL’s top teams in terms of play for two periods, but didn’t have the offence to show for it. The players know that type of effort will serve them well, and they should be eager to see what happens against a team that isn’t rapidly becoming a favourite for the Stanley Cup.
The Buffalo Sabres are not such a team, and one that may have actually taken a step backward from where they were a season ago. Offence isn’t coming as easily as it did then, and they don’t have the defensive chops to compensate.
If the Canadiens intend to add to Buffalo’s woes. a few goals in the first period would boost their own confidence. You could tell in the last game the lack of production began to wear on the team as the Kings were able to score on their opportunities, and generating a bit of positivity early will be a big help.
