A few days after his teammate, Lane Hutson, inked his first contract with the Montreal Canadiens, Luke Tuch has followed suit. There was some concern over whether he may decide to test free-agency instead, but that has been put to bed.
The NHL contract will start next season and run for two years. He has signed a one-year, one-way AHL contract with the Laval Rocket for the remainder of the season and will finish the year with them. They have two games remaining on Friday and Saturday before potentially a playoff appearance.
Selected 47th overall by the Canadiens back in the 2020 NHL Draft, Tuch has been developing for a full four seasons in the NCAA ever since. He showed some real improvement in his senior season with Boston University, notching 10 goals and 20 assists through 39 games before they were eliminated from the Frozen Four tournament.
A bigger body and a solid net-front presence, Tuch figures to add some bite to the forward group in Laval, and hopefully challenge to earn a spot in the Canadiens’ bottom six in the next few seasons.
