Yesterday we had our first taste of NHL action. Well, if we’re being fair, it was a collection of rookies and prospects wearing NHL uniforms, but it’s hockey nonetheless!
The Habs dropped the opening game of the rookie tournament versus the Penguins by a score of 4-3, but we all know that the final score doesn’t matter in games like these.
I really liked how Angelo Miceli played, he’ll be an interesting player to watch as the tournament goes on. As for the “big guns,” none of them really stood out, although Charles Hudon and Nikita Scherbak did have scoring chances, including hitting a few posts.
Without further ado, here are the highlights.
Jean-Sebastien Dea found Scott Watson to open the scoring
Zachary Fucale had a strong game, despite allowing four goals
Dalton Thrower’s fight with Evan Wardley didn’t go too well
Nikita Scherbak with a nice move that was denied by the poke check
Jeremiah Addison scored first for the Habs, thanks to a nice pass from Angelo Miceli.
Ty Loney gave the Penguins the lead with this awkward goal
Daniel Carr, who was the acting captain throughout the game, tied the game at 2-2 thanks to another great pass by Miceli
Charle Hudon injured Evan Wardley with this weird hit. It was very late as well.
Tim Bozon tied the game 3-3, from yet another pass by Miceli.
Daniel Sprong scored a nice goal in overtime to win it for the Penguins
The prospects are back in action tonight at 7:30 pm EST versus the Toronto Maple Leafs.
