The Montreal Canadiens will have two additional players representing them at the 2023 IIHF Men’s World Hockey Championship as goaltending prospect Frederik Dichow and forward Joel Armia were named to Denmark’s and Finland’s roster respectively.

The two players will join three Americans (Luke Hutson, Sean Farrell, and Luke Tuch), and two Canadians (Justin Barron and Samuel Montembeault) to represent the organization at the tournament. The first games start on May 12.

Dichow played last season as Frölunda’s backup goaltender and the 22-year-old will likely be the first choice goaltender for the tournament. It will be a good opportunity to see his progress against some of the best teams he will see this season. The Canadiens have until June 1, 2023 to sign Dichow before his rights expire and you can imagine the team will keep a close eye on the Danish goalie.

Dichow had a tough season in Frölunda, where he played 16 games and had a GAA of 2.76 and a save percentage of .899, as a backup behind Lars Johansson, Sweden’s goalie in the World Championships.

Armia had a tough time this season, but after suffering through injuries, finished the season relatively strong. He is one of the few NHL players on the Finnish team, who will co-host the tournament alongside Latvia as games will be played in Tampere and Riga.
