Charlie Lindgren will be sticking around with the Montreal Canadiens organization. The goaltender earned another year with the club.

Coming off of his NCAA career in March of 2016, the Canadiens were able to land the free agent by offering to burn the first year of entry-level contract. That was achieved by having him play one game in the NHL at the tail end of the 2015-16 season. He won that first game, allowing two goals to the Carolina Hurricanes.
He received two more starts at the end of last season while Al Montoya dealt with an injury. He won both of those as well to stay undefeated at the NHL level, with a .943 save percentage to date.

His main job last season was playing the starter’s role for the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate. He played 48 of the St. John’s IceCaps’ 76 games, finishing with a 24-18-6 record and .914 save percentage. His performance earned him a selection to the AHL All-Star Game, and helped propel the farm team to its first post-season appearance in five years. While he did have a .922 save percentage in four playoff games, it wasn’t enough to allow the IceCaps to advance to the second round.
Next season you can expect him to retake the starting job with the AHL team — recently relocated to become the Laval Rocket — while receiving the odd call-up to the NHL squad. He should be considered in the battle to back up Carey Price with Montoya.
At the end of the contract, Lindgren will still be a restricted free agent but he will have the right to take the team to arbitration, which he did not have this season.
