Montreal Canadiens sign goaltender Charlie Lindgren to a contract

The Montreal Canadiens have signed free-agent goaltender Charlie Lindgren to a two-year, two-way contract. Lindgren is coming off a career-best season with St. Cloud State University, finishing his junior year with a .925 save percentage.

The Lakeville, Minnesota native propelled St. Cloud to a second-place finish the the National Collegiate Hockey Conference of the NCAA’s Division I, getting credit for a team-record 30 of the team’s 31 wins on the season.

His contract starts this season, so the right-catching, 6’2″ goaltender will see some action in the Canadiens system relatively soon. Marc Bergevin confirmed that he will actually be joining the NHL team to get a look before the season comes to a close.

He should get a fair look for the backup role in Montreal come Habs training camp in September.
