Catching the Torch: Nov. 25-Dec. 1

The Three Stars

1. RW Christian Thomas

While the Hamilton Bulldogs have suffered some depth losses in the last stretch, the addition of a healthy Christian Thomas to their lineup is delivering signifiant dividends in team scoring. While the Bulldogs would drop a 6-3 decision to the Rochester Americans to begin the week, he would feature in all three of Bulldogs goals, scoring a goal and two assists to help keep Hamilton from being blown out entirely. He would be held off the scoresheet in the following game against Toronto, a 3-1 loss for Hamilton, but would finish his week off in fine style. Versus the Lake Erie Monsters he would mark two assists in a 4-1 victory for Hamilton. Thomas has scored eight points in eight games since coming off of the injured reserve list. Christian Thomas was drafted in the 2nd round, 40th overall by the New York Rangers in the 2010 NHL Draft and was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Danny Kristo.

2. LW Artturi Lehkonen

Playing on one of the worst teams in the SM-Liiga has been something of a challenge for Artturi Lehkonen this season, but he continues to be one of KalPa Kupio’s finest players. Lehkonen would pick up an assist in a 4-0 victory for KalPa over Jokerit Helsinki to start his week. He would mark another assist in the following game as KalPa would take a 4-2 decision over Ilves Tampere. His final game of the week marked his first goal in 7 games as KalPa would suffer a 4-3 loss to Kärpät Oulu. Lehkonen’s 5 goals and 11 assists make him the leading scorer for KalPa and ties him for the scoring lead among Under-20 players in the Liiga. Artturi Lehkonen was drafted in the 2nd round, 55th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2013 NHL Draft.

3. RW Martin Reway

One of the most potent offensive forces in the QMJHL these days,Martin Reway continues to be a key contributor for the Gatineau Olympiques. Reway would begin his week in impressive fashion, scoring two goals and an assist in a 6-3 victory for Gatineau over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. He would pick two assists in the following game, a 3-2 loss for Gatineau to the Shawinigan Cataractes. Reway would mark a goal and assist to finish off a three games in three days schedule as Gatineau would take a 5-4 shootout victory over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. Reway’s 14 goals and 27 assists in 25 games have him ranked 6th in the QMJHL in scoring and he is only 9 points away from tying his previous season output of 50 points in 47 games. Martin Reway was drafted in the 4th round, 116th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2013 NHL Draft.
