Catching The Torch: Dec. 6 to Jan. 12th

The Three Stars

1. Magnus Nygren

Leading off the Three Stars this week is the defensive scoring ace of Färjestad BK in the Swedish Hockey League that is Magnus Nygren. Nygren would begin the week without a point in his first game, a 4-0 loss to Skellefteå AIK. He would make the scoreboard in the following game, collecting an assist in a 2-1 loss to Frölunda HC. Next game he would mark his best performance of his SHL season to date as he would score two goals and an assist as Färjestad would defeat Leksands IF in a 5-1 victory. Since rejoining Färjestad, Nygren has scored five goals and four assists in 12 games, making him the team leader in goals by a defencemen and three points out of leading the team in defensive scoring. Magnus Nygren was drafted in the 4th round, 113th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2011 NHL Draft.

2. Nathan Beaulieu

While playing through an up-and-down season, Nathan Beaulieu has surged ahead for the Hamilton Bulldogs in the last couple of weeks. Beaulieu would score his first goal in seventeen games to help the Bulldogs edge a 2-1 victory over the Rochester Americans to begin his week. He would be held without a point in the following game, a 3-1 loss in a rematch versus Rochester. Beaulieu would mark his first multi-point game since November 23rd as he would score a goal and assist to aid Hamilton in earning a 3-1 victory over the Iowa Wild. Beaulieu has now scored five points in his last five games. Nathan Beaulieu was drafted in the 1st round, 17th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2011 NHL Draft.

3. Dustin Tokarski

The figurative and often literal backbone of the Hamilton Bulldogs winning record this season, Dustin Tokarski continues to patrol the crease of the Hamilton net with great efficiency. Tokarski would earn a win in his first start of the week, stopping 19 of 20 shots to help Hamilton mark a 2-1 victory over the Rochester Americans. he would pick up a win in his second start as well, stopping 27 of 28 shots as Hamilton would defeat the Iowa Wild 3-1. Tokarski has a 2.09 Goals Against Average and a .928 save % on his season, which is good enough for 4th overall in the AHL in both categories, his overall record is 15-7-2. Dustin Tokarski was drafted in the 5th round, 122nd overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2008 NHL Draft and was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Cedrick Desjardins.
