After earning their first win at San Jose in over 20 years, the Montreal Canadiens remained in California to take on an L.A. Kings squad featuring a familiar face in their lineup. Playing against their former shutdown centre in Phillip Danault, the Habs would need to bring some offense if they were to earn consecutive wins for the first time this season.
Welcome to your Bottom Six Minutes in which I’ll discuss them continuing to not have consecutive wins.
They were badly outplayed by the Kings. After a decent first period that saw them take a lead, they just came out flat for the second, and stayed that way for the remaining 40 minutes. Jake Allen was unable to put together a performance like that he delivered in San Jose, and even if he did, it would have been tough for them to leave with two points given the effort in front of him.
Perhaps the most frustrating thing about this team right now is that they seem to give up when they get down in games. There is no fighting back whether the deficit is two or four goals, they play like a team already defeated.
Your silver lining for this game is Ben Chiarot, who found the net and seemed to be making a legitimate effort to help create some offense. But it is just that, a silver lining, as it will take much more than improved play from him to turn this ship around.
