Canadiens put Alzner on waivers, Byron on injured reserve

The Montreal Canadiens have once again put defenceman Karl Alzner on waivers.

This comes after the Canadiens activated forward Andrew Shaw off injured reserve. The forward hasn’t played since Dec. 31 after being sidelined with a neck injury. In 36 games, Shaw has 11 goals and 24 points. Paul Byron, who suffered a forearm injury against the Edmonton Oilers Feb. 3, has now been placed on injured reserve. The forward only has 10 goals and 19 points in 36 games.

Alzner has suited up in just nine games for the Canadiens, picking up one point. If he clears, he’ll rejoin the Laval Rocket where he has two points in 11 games for the American Hockey League team.

The Canadiens’ latest roster moves come off the heels of their latest trade with the Philadelphia Flyers, which saw them acquire defenceman Christian Folin and forward Dale Weise.
