Montreal Canadiens acquire Dale Weise, Christian Folin from Flyers for Byron Froese, David Schlemko

The Montreal Canadiens have acquired forward Dale Weise and defenceman Christian Folin from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenceman David Schlemko and forward Byron Froese.

Folin, 28, has just two points in 26 games played this season. But the Swedish rearguard is a big body at six-foot-three and 204 pounds.

The Flyers will retain 18.75% of Folin’s salary. He makes $800,000 and is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

This trade will mark Weise’s second go-round in the Canadiens organization. He spent three seasons with the Habs, where he amassed 27 goals and 59 points in 152 career games, while also adding five goals and 10 postseason points.

Per the team, Weise will report to the Laval Rocket. He had cleared waivers previously.

The trade marks the end of the David Schlemko era. The former San Jose Shark was acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights prior to the 2017-18 season. However, the defenceman only played 55 games for the Habs and picked up only seven points in that span.

Froese was named the first team captain in Laval Rocket history in 2017. He had three goals and eight assists in 48 NHL games last year with the Canadiens. He has 14 goals and 16 assists in 46 games with the Rocket this season.
