Pre-game

  • Hockey Night in Canada intro is The Power of Love that included a clip of Michael J. Fox in the crowd. Throwback to Back to the Future. This is already a good start.
  • Let’s keep the fun vibes rolling and beat the Leafs to get on last dig in before they get put out in the first round of the playoffs.
  • Yes. It’s a Saturday night Habs vs. Leafs matchup. Damn right I said let’s win.

First period

  • Evans gets the first penalty of the night for hooking Marner. Not that it wasn’t a hook but let’s see just how much the refs favour the Leafs tonight. Just out of curiosity.
  • Halfway through and the Habs have yet to register a shot on goal. We’re not going to serve them their lunch that way, fellas.
  • Monty’s on the case stopping Nylander’s close call before Barron gets called for giving him a high stick to the face. I’m on board with this tactic.
  • Marner opens the scoring on the power play. Time to start making Samsonov earn his paycheck.
  • Any second now.
  • There we go! Oh, sorry. Didn’t mean to get your hopes up. We finally got a shot on goal, not an actual goal.
  • Toronto heads to their third power play of the period. Forget the refs, I think we’re against ourselves tonight.
  • Tavare takes advantage of the man advantage this time.
  • Pezz takes on Simmonds. Pezz, my man. Wilson on Thursday night. Simmonds tonight. You’re really ready for this season to be over, hey?
  • Seems Monty is the only one who realizes there are still three more games to play before the season is over.

Second period

  • Gallagher gets hit on the foot with the puck. Well, that’s it for him for the final two games I suppose.
  • Kovacevic lets one rip and on shot number five we’re on the board! They are alive!
  • Suzuki picks up his 40th assist of the season. And made it through the season without getting injured. That’s an impressive feat in itself.
  • Nylander gets one past Monty and everyone knows it before Monty does.
  • Marner follows that up with his second of the night.
  • Can we just call it now? Is there some kind of rule that we have to play the next 35 minutes? There is? Well darn.
  • One inch to the left and it would have been 5-1 for the Leafs. Luckily Monty scooched over with that skate.

Third period

  • Our second power play chance of the night is a good opportunity to at least cut the lead in half. You know. Make Monty feel like you’re helping him out.
  • Tavares notches his second of the night.
  • St-Louis is throwing caution to the wind and going for a goaltender interference challenge!
  • Oh, that’s interference 100%. Or at least 50-50.
  • You know what really sucks? I used to like the song “You Make my Dreams” now it brings on slight rage.
  • Edmundson cross-checks Bunting, who takes full advantage and dives, and chaos ensues. Just nobody hit Evans in the head. That’s all I ask.
  • What do you call three Toronto Maples Leafs in the penalty box? Who cares? It’s just plain funny when they’re already up 5-1.
  • Oh, Matthews. I didn’t even realize you were playing. Way to make your appearance with five minutes left to add to the tally.
  • And again with three minutes remaining.
  • Enjoy it while you can, Leafs. #GoTampa (and we all know how I feel about the Lightning. They bring on more rage than “You Make My Dreams”).
