There is a seemingly endless debate about where Alex Galchenyuk should play. Regardless of which spot he’s in, the young forward has all the skill in the world to pull off jaw-dropping goals against the opposition.
Just ask Phillip Grubauer.
After dumping the puck in along the boards, Jacob de la Rose misses the net with a shot, and follows the loose puck behind the net. After a solid hit on the Capitals defender, he forces the puck back into open space for a waiting Galchenyuk.
Then the American did what he does best. He took an open seam and used his skating to get in close on net, leaving the defence behind him. As he breaks in on the goal he pulls the puck back to his backhand as Grubauer drops into the butterfly. Galchenyuk then finishes the play with aplomb by roofing the puck for the first goal of the game.
This goal just highlights one of the most dangerous aspects of Galchenyuk’s offensive game. He has the ability to get powerful shots off with almost no time or space, leaving goalies little to no chance of stopping them, especially when he’s uncovered in front of the net.
