Zach Redmond returns to practice

Montreal Canadiens defenceman Zach Redmond returned to practice Monday in California after his conditioning stint in the AHL this weekend.

The tweet above says that he was officially called up, but there appears to be some confusion on that front.

That tweet says that he wasn’t officially recalled but was practicing. It means that the Habs could be waiting until 5 p.m. Eastern to make the move official. This would allow the team to save one more day of Redmond’s NHL salary on the salary cap.

Players who are not on the NHL roster are still able to participate in practice.

Brandon Prust practiced with Toronto despite not being on the roster.

Redmond played two games for the IceCaps where he registered no points, but played noticeably well. His conditioning stint could have been up to 14 days as per the CBA, but clearly the Canadiens decided they needed to bring him back early as they try to shore up their defensive third pairing which has been a challenge for them this season.
