Ryan Poehling, Cayden Primeau named to Team USA World Junior camp roster

World Junior season continues with Team USA announcing their camp roster for the upcoming tournament. Included on that roster are Canadiens draft picks Ryan Poehling and Cayden Primeau, who were both selected in the 2017 NHL Draft.

This will be Poehling’s second camp with Team USA, and he’s almost assuredly a lock for the team after making the final roster last year. On that team he played a significant top six role, and helped guide the Americans to a bronze medal over the Czech Republic in Buffalo.

Now in his third year at St. Cloud State in the NCAA, Poehling has become a highly reliable two-way forward, posting 31 points in 36 games last year, and 15 points in 14 games so far this season. While the talent on the US roster is big, he’ll likely be a go to forward for his coach once again.

Primeau was drafted in the seventh round, 199th overall in 2017, and has gone on to become one of the most dominant goalies in the NCAA since then. He finished his freshman year with a 19-8-5 record and a sparkling .931 save percentage for Northeastern. So far this season he’s up to his old tricks, with a 9-3-1 record and .917 save percentage.

The United States camp will take place in Everett, Washington from December 15-17, and then in Kamloops from December 18-20, with an exhibition game against Russia on the 20th.
