Finland pulled off a bit of an upset over Slovakia in the quarter-finals to make it to the semis. A win today versus the United States would require the game of their tournament. USA’s offensive firepower is the envy of most teams in the tournament, with scoring options up and down the lineup, and it’s going to be difficult for even a nation that prides itself on defensive play to contain them.
Much of USA’s offence goes through Cutter Gauthier, the player who leads the tournament in points with 11, 10 of them assists. Finland is led by Jere Lassila and Kasper Halttunen, with seven and six points, respectively, which would only place them sixth and seventh on Team USA’s scoring list.
If the Finns are to win this game, goaltender Niklas Kokko will have to significantly outplay Trey Augustine in the opposite net.
