It all started with an innocent tweet from Sportsnet’s Eric Engels.

That’s right, they actually tried a modified version of the Flying V from the Mighty Ducks movie. In an NHL game. And they ended up scoring a goal. Seriously.
Engels’s story (that you can read here) says that Habs rookie Artturi Lehkonen spilled the beans about the new strategy. “The Flying V” he explained.
In case you want to feel old, Lehkonen wasn’t even born when the first movie came out. He was born in 1995, and the movie came out in 1992.
Sure, the players could say that they tried it, but then EOTP contributor Olivier Bouchard went out of his way to find the video evidence:

The strategy didn’t work perfectly at first, but they did get two controlled zone entries out of it, and eventually scored. Maybe with a little practice, they can get the passing to work as well as the Ducks did in the movie.
Now that I think about it, Shea Weber is definitely Fulton Reed, and Max Pacioretty is a more talented Charlie Conway. Good thing Carey Price is better than Greg Goldberg.
And you know what I always thought? If Luis Mendoza could stop, he’d be Paul Byron.
