Team Russia announces World Junior selection camp roster

Team Russia has announced its World Junior selection camp roster, and as expected 2016 first-round pick Mikhail Sergachev was added to list. He should play a key role for Team Russia at the upcoming tournament.

Sergachev will join several other NHL prospects at the camp.

After a slow start in the OHL this season, Sergachev is coming into his own. I had a chance to speak to him after last Friday’s game versus the Ottawa 67s, and he confirmed that he’s feeling a lot more comfortable recently.

“The speed in the OHL isn’t quite at NHL levels, but it’s still quite fast. It takes some getting used to, but I’m feeling good lately.”

He also mentioned that being a first-round pick has its downsides. “For sure, they definitely target me out there. Ottawa hit me what feels like 25 times tonight, and my shoulder is feeling the pain, but that’s something I have to deal with, and I look forward to the challenge.”

In 11 games with the Spitfires this season Sergachev has earned seven assists.
