Where is the Habs moxy? Ask any Habs fan, and they will tell you, on most given nights, it comes from Carey Price. Tonight, Price is not playing lights out. The wall has a brick or two loose, loose enough for a wide open shot or breakaway to knock out a block and find the back of the net. When this happens, the Habs have to look for some goal-scoring, which they have been able to find most of the time this year, when needed, when they can wake up and show some moxy.
Brandon Prust showed some moxy by crushing Ben Bishop when he went to play the puck behind the net. Trailing 3-0, it probably seemed like a good idea at the time. The Habs killed the resulting Tampa Bay powerplay, and continued to put on displays of grit (but not shooting as the Habs went almost 5 minutes without registering a shot on goal), with Brendan Gallagher dropping the gloves with Vladislav Namestnikov. More gritty stuff led to undiscipline from the Lightning’s J.T. Brown, giving the Habs the chance to get one on the powerplay, which they did with Tomas Plekanec’s 21st goal of the year.
The Prust hit on Bishop seems to have changed the allure of the game. The Habs ended the period with some good pressure in the Lightning zone, carrying the momentum with them into the third period. Despite being outscored 3-1, the Habs are still in this game, going 50/50 CF (19-19) with the Lightning in the second period, and 46.67 CF% through 2 periods.
Lineup note: This was reported earlier in the game, but Brian Flynn left the game in the first period and will remain out for the rest of the game.
