Sven Andrighetto placed on waivers

After a competitive preseason battle for a top 9 roster spot it appears the Canadiens have made up their mind, choosing to place Sven Andrighetto on waivers, and send him to the AHL.

Andrighetto was competing with Daniel Carr and Artturi Lehkonen for a spot in the Habs lineup, and strong performances from the aforementioned forwards pushed the Swiss sniper out of the lineup. Should he clear Andrighetto, would be assigned to the St. John’s IceCaps who open up their season in Hartford tonight, before travelling to Albany on Saturday.

His presence in the AHL would be welcomed, as Stefan Matteau serves a two game suspension that carried over from last season. The timing however, is a bit off with Torrey Mitchell leaving Thursday’s game with an injury, and Andrew Shaw potentially being disciplined by the NHL for a his slew foot penalty at the end of the same game against the Sabres.

There’s also the question of whether or not keeping Brian Flynn on the roster instead of Andrighetto is a wise choice.
