The St. John’s IceCaps continued their six-game homestand with a weekend series against their division-leading rivals, the Syracuse Crunch. After having earned only three out of a possible eight points so far during this tough home stretch, the IceCaps had to dig deep during their meeting with the Crunch.
Saturday
And dig deep they did. The IceCaps put the pedal to the metal on Saturday night, and never let up on the gas until the final buzzer sounded.
On the first power play of the night, with a feed from Zach Redmond,Terry fired a one-timer past Crunch goaltender, Kristers Gudlevskies at the 6:18 mark to get the IceCaps on the board first. Nikita Scherbak picked up the other helper.

Three minutes later, during a 6-on-5 from a delayed penalty, Jacob de la Rose made it a two-goal lead with a wrist shot. The Crunch cut the lead in half less than two minutes later while Redmond sat in the box for tripping.
It was all IceCaps during the middle frame, with Stefan Matteau and David Broll netting a goal each to make it 4-1 and chase Gudlevskis from the net in the process.

De la Rose also added to his tally with a redirect after Bobby Farnham chipped the puck out from behind the net with just over a minute to go in the period.
Early in the third, Redmond made it a 6-1 game with the help of Terry and Scherbak.

The IceCaps came to play on Saturday, with four players having a multi-point night; de la Rose (3), Terry (2), Scherbak (2) and Redmond (2).

Sunday
After giving it their all the previous evening, the IceCaps had to renew their efforts on Sunday afternoon. Although the shots were pretty even during the opening period, the Crunch dominated, tallying three unanswered goals during the first half.
Following a Max Friberg pass across the blue line, Terry scored the lone goal of the second period when his slap shot got past Adam Wilcox, giving the IceCaps some life.

54 seconds into the final frame, Adam Erne beat IceCaps netminder Charlie Lindgren for the second time, to make it 4-1. Charles Hudon took advantage of the power-play a little over four minutes later, taking a pass from Terry and shoveling the puck behind Wilcox to cut the lead in half.

Not to be outdone, Terry potted his second of the afternoon while still on the power-play, just 20 seconds later to close the gap and make it a one-goal game.

Mike Halmo notched the insurance goal for Syracuse with 7:30 left in the game with a little deke to slip the puck behind Lindgren for a final score of 5-3.
