Friday, general manager Marc Bergevin announced that the St. John’s IceCaps have signed 30-year old defenceman Julien Brouillette to a one-year, one-way contract.

Brouillette was signed to a professional tryout (PTO) on November 3, 2016 with the IceCaps. In 19 games played during his PTO, he’s tallied four points (2G, 2A).
With injuries piling up, Brouillette has had the opportunity to establish himself for the IceCaps, and he was close to the 25-game limit that comes with a PTO. The IceCaps would have had to decide to sign him to another PTO or lock him up for the rest of the season.
Brouillette is no stranger to Newfoundland, suiting up with the IceCaps during the 2014-15 season when they were the affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets.
Between 2011-2014, he’s been with the AHL team the Hershey Bears, making it to the Calder Cup championship two years in a row. Also under his belt are 11 NHL games. As part of the Hershey Bears, he was recalled to play 10 games with the Washington Capitals and, one game with the Winnipeg Jets.
