Some late Tuesday Habs links

Not too busy of a day for the Montreal Canadiens, as the team continues to shorten it’s roster.

Today the club assigned goaltender Nathan Lawson, forward Brian Willsie and defenseman Frederic St-Denis to the Hamilton Bulldogs. The club also put defenseman Alex Henry on waivers, which should lead to his assignment to the AHL club.

Meanwhile Jacques Martin continues to look for a substitute to anchor the Habs powerplay until Andrei Markov is ready to return. Having tried Andrei Kostitsyn already this post season, the bench boss rotated Tomas Plekanec into the vacant slot.

“We’re still experimenting to be completely sure who’s going to be on our back end, and one thing is that in the absence of Markov, we’re trying to find someone to quarterback our powerplay on the first unit. Right now we’re experimenting with a forward in that position,” said Martin, “We have a player like P.K. who’s got a dangerous shot and can score goals, so we want to find another player who can compliment that and help him set up that shot.”

And of course on this day…in 1972. Coincidentally, I found myself sitting at the Burger King tonight , where a photo montage of the winning goal and an autographed team print adorns one wall.
