Sebastian Collberg dominates, then gets injured in World Juniors summer camp

Sebastian Collberg continued to be the top forward for Sweden today, dominating the first half of the game with two goals and an assist. You can see highlights of his performance above.

Unfortunately though, Collberg when down awkwardly and couldn’t return to the game. Adam Kimelman from NHL.com provided an injury update for Collberg:

Earlier in the period, Sebastian Collberg sustained what Gronborg said was a twisted right knee. Collberg, a Montreal Canadiens prospect who scored both of Sweden’s first-period goals, was attempting to move through the defensive zone when he was hurt. Collberg needed help leaving the ice and was unable to put any weight on his right leg. Gronborg said he didn’t know how serious the injury was.

“He got a little twist, someone fell over his knee, it twisted when he was in the middle of a turn,” Gronborg said. “We’ll wait and see. Right now it doesn’t feel too good, but with those type of injuries we won’t know until we take a look the day after.”

A twisted knee is just a guess at this point, but it’s far better than what it initially looked like, which was a tear similar to what Alexei Emelin suffered last season, or Andrei Markov before him. Hopefully it’s just minor but painful and something Collberg can recover from quickly.

UPDATE: Collberg had no swelling in his knee today, which suggests that the injury was relatively minor. His coach said he may play on Wednesday but the decision is not made yet.

Brady Vail suited up for the Americans in the game and managed to grab an assist on the first goal the USA scored, winning a faceoff that resulted in a quick shot.
