Ryan Poehling signs entry-level contract, will join Montreal Canadiens immediately

For the second year in a row the St. Cloud State Huskies fell victim to a massive Atlantic Hockey underdog in the NCAA Hockey tournament. The Huskies were tripped up by the Yellow Jackets from American International, and with that Ryan Poehling saw his NCAA career come to an end.

Poehling has signed his entry-level contract, which will begin this season, not in 2019-20. He will join the Montreal Canadiens immediately.

In 35 games for the Huskies this past year, Poehling tallied eight goals and 23 assists while playing in all situations for the nation’s top college team. Across his three years in the NCAA Poehling played in 106 games and posted 75 points in those games. This past year also saw Poehling grab a World Juniors silver medal, being named the tournament MVP and best forward in addition to being named to the All-Star Team.

UPDATE: Poehling will be exempt from the Seattle expansion draft.
